SAIL Chairman to visit Bokaro Steel Plant to resolve production bottlenecks


Bokaro:  The chairman of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Soma Mondal, is most likely to visit Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) on September 9.  Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) management has started preparing for this. The top BSL officials have recieved tentative visit plan about the chairman. While the issue which prompted the chairman to visit the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) remains unclear, BSL sources said Mondal would visit Blast Furnace and Steel Melting Shop- 1 & 2 to review its performance. There is a mismatch between hot metal production and steel making. Mondal intends to address the challenges faced by BSL in this connection.

Source said, SAIL chairman had reviewed the production performance of all the five integrated steel plants including BSL on August, 29. In which, she find some bottlenecks in logistics of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL).

Chairman is focused on addressing the challenges related to high cokerade in Blast Furnance which leads to high cost of production and affecting the bottomline of the company. If this issue is not resolved there will be a big dent in H1 profitability of SAIL, said sources.

Apart from it, she will also give directions on the modernisation and expansion work of the plant. Sources said that chairman also has a plan to visit the colliery area operated under BSL and Rourkela.
