SEFI election announced: Direct contest between Bhilai and Bokaro Steel Plant for chairman post

The election for the Steel Executive Federation of India (SEFI) will take place on March 12 in Hyderabad. However, the Council meeting will take place prior to that on March 11. This was announced at the virtual meeting of SEFI on Wednesday evening.

There are officers from 16 units including SAIL, MECON, RINL, NINL to participate in the election process of SEFI, whereas NMDC and Nagarnar Steel Plant who recently become members of SEFI will be observers this time. Each unit is represented by three members. A total of 48 members will participate in the election.

Narendra Kumar Banchor, the President of the BSP Officers Association, won the last election. This time, however, the competition is fierce as A K Singh, the president of the Bokaro Steel Officer Association (BSOA), is also contesting for the position of chairman. Besides having good clout with officers in Burnpur, Durgapur, Rourkela, and other units, Singh is a popular leader in Bokaro. Singh’s team won all posts in the recent BSOA election.

The SEFI election to be held in Hyderabad will feature a direct contest between Bhilai Steel Plant (BSL) and Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL). NK Banchor was elected chairman in the 2018 SEFI election. Prior to this, he was the General Secretary in 2016 and the SEFI nominee in 2009. A K Singh who has been involved in politics of officers for the past twenty years, too has a strong base. He was also former general secretary of SEFI.

In addition to the chairmanship, there is a triangular race for secretary. Rourkela Officers Association President Abkash Malik, IISCO Burnpur Suman and RDCIS President A.Nag will compete for the position of Secretary.
