Bokaro: A 25-year-old man, Kalicharan Kewat, who was in police custody at Balidih police station in the district, died at Bokaro Sadar Hospital on Saturday morning. Sanjay Singh, his associate, is also admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The family of the deceased gathered at the Balidih police station after the incident. A police officer said that neither the public nor the police had beaten the deceased. Kewat and Sanjay were caught red handed while breaking the door of a primary school in Gadiya Ghutu of Balidih on Friday night. Both were drunk.
According to the police officer, “seeing them in such an inebriated state, police immediately took them to Jainamod Referral Hospital, where doctors saw their condition and recommended Sadar Hospital, Bokaro. Both men were admitted to Sadar Hospital Bokaro by police in the night, where Kalicharan died in the morning. Even the deceased’s family members admitted before us that he was a heavy drinker”.
In order to clear the doubt, a medical board has been constituted by DC, Bokaro Kuldeep Chaudhary, who conducted a post-mortem with video recording, and a magisterial inquiry is currently being set up, said the police official.
The deceased and his associate were allegedly caught by residents and handed over to police. The police then took both youths to the hospital for treatment. Ahilya Devi, however, had filed a written complaint with the police in this case. The deceased was a mason.
