Bokaro :A simple act of giving turned into a powerful lesson in compassion and social responsibility when students of Sree Ayyappa Public School (SAPS) celebrated Daan Utsav at Ekal Vidyalaya, Baghadih.
Students step beyond classroom walls
A delegation of 19 student council members, four teachers and staff members, accompanied by Vice Chairman Mohanan R Nair, visited the school, which caters to around 30 children from underprivileged backgrounds. The initiative, titled ‘Karunya’, sought to encourage students to understand that education is not merely about academic achievement but also about empathy, sharing and service to society.

A gesture of hope and support
The visiting students brought around 30 cartons of essential supplies, including food items, clothes, books, notebooks, school bags and stationery. The contributions were aimed at supporting the children’s education while bringing happiness, confidence and encouragement to them.

Warm welcome from young learners
The programme, coordinated by Rajendar Nath Mahato, Shiksha Prashikshak, Bokaro Anchal Samiti, began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony by Nair. Students of Ekal Vidyalaya welcomed the visiting delegation with a melodious song, Saraswati Vandana and Vande Mataram, creating an atmosphere of warmth and togetherness.
Music adds an emotional touch
The interaction soon became more than a distribution programme. Head Girl Shraddha’s rendition of “Dil Hai Chhota Sa, Chhoti Si Asha” filled the gathering with optimism, while the Head Boy and Head Girl of Sree Ayyappa Public School encouraged the children to study diligently, dream fearlessly and work towards a brighter future.
Education with empathy
School Chairman P Rajagopal and committee members emphasised that education becomes truly meaningful when it is accompanied by empathy, humility and social responsibility. They encouraged students to understand that even a small act of kindness can make a lasting difference in someone’s life.
Learning beyond textbooks
Director Dr S S Mahapatra said initiatives such as these provide students with valuable learning experiences beyond the classroom and help them grow into responsible citizens. He stressed the importance of compassion, service and meaningful action in building a better society.
Values that shape young minds
Principal P Shailaja Jayakumar appreciated the efforts of the students, teachers and staff, saying Daan Utsav teaches children that sharing resources, knowledge and happiness can make society stronger and more inclusive.
School leadership joins the initiative
Vice Chairmen Saseendran Karat and Mohanan R Nair, General Secretary E S Suseelan, Treasurer Balachandran and Board Members Suresh Kumar K A and Dr Suresh Babu were also present during the programme.
A message that goes beyond giving
The programme concluded with the National Anthem, leaving behind a message that extended far beyond the day’s activities: the true value of giving lies not merely in what is donated, but in the hope, dignity and confidence it inspires in another person’s life.
