Home Minister Amit Shah honours DC Bokaro Kuldeep Choudhary with ‘Excellence in Governance Award’


The Union home minister, Amit Shah, presented ‘Excellence in Governance Award’ to the DC of Bokaro, Kuldeep Chaudhary in an event organized at Oberoi, New Delhi on Tuesday.  Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the ceremony as the chief guest.

DC Bokaro bagged the award in Energy category for promoting solar-based lift irrigation systems in the district. The effort of Chaudhary increased the incomes of 825 farmers, stepped up crop cover in the district by 59 percent, and provided a sustainable solution using renewable energy.

Excellence In Governance Awards essentially honours DC’s from across all the districts in the country for innovations implemented by them in their areas, which positively impacted the welfare of the citizens and government efficiency. Video:   

The awards were given in 18 categories, from social welfare to agriculture, education, and technology. 401 entries were received from 182 districts in 29 states, and the winners were selected from among them.

The winners were chosen by a panel that included Wajahat Habibullah, a former chair of the National Commission for Minorities and the country’s first Chief Information Commissioner, Nirupama Rao, India’s Foreign Secretary, KM Chandrasekhar, a Former Cabinet Secretary, and Amarjeet Sinha, member of Public Enterprises Selection Board, under the direction of former Chief Justice of India RM Lodha.

PWC, the awards’ knowledge partner, examined each entry’s performance in terms of innovation, impact, implementation, and participation of people.
