On Thursday, Bokaro recorded a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius. This marks the fourth consecutive day with temperatures surpassing 40 degrees.

The current heat levels in mid-April are comparable to those typically experienced in May and June. By midday, the city’s markets become increasingly quiet as people seek shelter from the heat.

According to the Meteorological Department, the heat wave is expected to intensify, with temperatures rising by two to three degrees from April 19. Forecasts indicate that temperatures will remain between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius over the next week.

Dr. Arvind Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of the local hospital, warns that the escalating temperatures in April could pose serious health risks. He advises residents to prioritise their well-being by staying hydrated, consuming cooling beverages such as juice, lassi, and curd, and avoiding unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak sunlight hours.
