National Secretary, Youth Congress Sweta Singh with party cadres from Jharkhand detained by Delhi police staging protest over farm laws


Bokaro: National secretary of Indian Youth Congress (IYC), Sweta Singh along with several party cadres from Bokaro (Jharkhand) were detained by Delhi Police for several hours. They were staging protests with senior party leaders and other activists at Raisana Road in Delhi on Tuesday. Jharkhand state president, IYC, Kumar Gaurav, Bokaro district president of IYC, Ratnesh Singh and Asutosh Rai were also detained. They were released late evening from the police station.

Sweta Singh, talking over the phone from Delhi, said that IYC members headed by president Srinivas B V took out a protest march to ”gherao” Parliament over the “farmers” issues, rising unemployment, hike in fuel prices and others. They started the march from Jantar Mantar but were stopped by police on Raisana Road.

“About 100 IYC cadres from Jharkhand including Bokaro were detained by police during the protest. We all were taken to Mandir Marg Police Station and were released by evening after four hours,” said Sweta Singh. She added, “BJP is the culprit of youth and farmers. It is suppressing the voice of crores of farmers to benefit his capitalist friends”.

Sources said, that the IYC cadres also scuffle with the Delhi Police and paramilitary forces. Several senior leaders of Congress including Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, MPs Digvijaya Singh, Deepender Singh Hooda, Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev, Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar among others also participated in the protest.
