Bokaro: The Kolkata Police have arrested Sumit Bhagat, a resident of Jaridih Bazar of Bokaro, for cheating people in the name of providing jobs through a fake website.
An FIR was lodged against him four months ago at the Kolkata Cyber Station, after a complaint by Arvind Devnath, a resident of Kolkata. According to the complaint, Sumit had promised to provide a job in a multinational company and had taken seven lakh rupees from Devnath for the same.
Sumit had created a fake website and had lured people by promising them jobs in reputed companies. He had assured them that he would take the full payment only after providing them with the appointment letter.
However, after taking the money, Bhagat had handed over a fake appointment letter to Devnath. When Devnath went to join the company, he realized that he had been cheated and lodged a complaint with the cyber police station.
After investigating the matter, the Kolkata Police traced Sumit’s office in Ranchi. He had set up an office in Ranchi for the same fraudulent purpose. The police had gone there in search of him, but he had fled to Bokaro Jaridih market. The police then raided his house and arrested him.
The arrest of Sumit Bhagat is a significant step in curbing fraudulent activities in the name of job placements. The Police have advised people to be cautious while dealing with such job providers and to verify the authenticity of the website and the company before making any payment.
