Production stopped at DVC Bokaro Thermal Power Plant

Bokaro: Power production at Bokaro Thermal Power Plant (BTPS) has been halted due to overfilling of its Ash Pond in Noori Nagar under Bermo Subdivision, said sources. The Bokaro Thermal Power Station is one of the two power plants operated by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) in addition to the Chandrapura Thermal Power Plant.

The BTPS A unit, which has been shut down, has a capacity of 500 MW. It has affected power supply to Eastern Railway, Central Coalfield Limited (CCL), and JBVNL.

The Ash Pond that is overfilled has a capacity of 10 lakh cubic meters, but because of non-lifting of ash for the past two to three months, the pond has been completely filled. Another pond with the same capacity is also full. A search is underway to locate a mine that was closed by CCL so the ash can be disposed of.

BTPS officials are unavailable for comment.
