Bokaro: Global issues found a local debating ground at MGM Higher Secondary School, where students stepped into the shoes of diplomats during the two-day Eastern Youth Diplomacy Summit (EYDS) 2026.
Held on August 8 and 9 under the theme “For the Youth, Driven by Youth”, the summit brought together student delegates for debates, committee sessions and negotiations designed to replicate the functioning of a diplomatic conference.
The students deliberated on global and regional issues while putting their public speaking, research, critical thinking and negotiation skills to test. The format also encouraged participants to listen to opposing viewpoints and work towards collaborative solutions.
Dignitaries attend closing ceremony
The summit concluded on Sunday with a valedictory ceremony attended by Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha, Bokaro MLA Sweta Singh, Kumar Gaurav, Deputy Mayor Puja Singh and Ram Krishna, Sah Mantri of Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, among others.
Principal Fr Dr Joshi Varghese congratulated the delegates and the organising team for successfully conducting the summit. Vice-Principal Rakhi Banerjee, Headmistress Sapna Joshi and event in-charges Bincy Madhur and Robin Mallick were also present.
Awards recognise outstanding delegates
The closing ceremony featured the distribution of awards and certificates to outstanding delegates. The Best School Delegation was also honoured for its performance, participation and commitment during the summit.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries encouraged students to become confident, informed and responsible citizens.
For two days, the school became a training ground for young negotiators — where arguments had to be backed by research, differences settled through dialogue and leadership measured by the ability to persuade and collaborate.
The successful conclusion of EYDS 2026 reflected its central idea: “For the Youth, Driven by Youth” — giving young people a platform to debate, negotiate and make their voices heard.
