Bokaro’s ESL steel plant secures iron ore mine in Odisha


ESL Steel Limited (ESL), a 1.5 MTPA steel plant operated by the Vedanta Group, has secured the Nadidih iron ore reserve in Odisha. Its a captive iron ore mine. ESL emerged as the highest bidder in the auction held by the Odisha state government on September 20, said sources.

The iron ore mine is spread across 73 hectares in the Sundargarh district of Odisha. ESL emerged as the highest bidder among the seven other competitors. ESL steel plant is situated in Chandankyari Block of Bokaro in Jharkhand.

ESL was acquired by the Vedanta Group through the bankruptcy resolution process. The company has initiated for expansion to increase its steel production, but is facing stiff opposition by local BJP MLA, Amar Bauri and residents.
