Bokaro: The ongoing cultural week ‘Dharohar’ at Delhi Public School (DPS) Bokaro witnessed a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage and musical diversity as students showcased their talent through inter-house orchestra and group song competitions on Thursday.

The campus came alive with melodious performances as students from all six houses participated in the orchestra competition based on contemporary Bollywood music. The young musicians impressed the audience with their exceptional skills on instruments including tabla, guitar, clap box, keyboard, flute, drums and congo.
Bollywood melodies create a musical atmosphere
The orchestra competition began with an energetic performance by the Ravi House team, which presented a beautiful medley of popular Bollywood songs including “Aaja-Aaja”, “Koi Mil Gaya” and “Bachna Ae Haseeno”.

Following this, Chenab House presented melodies from “Don”, “Woh Ladki”, “Badtameez Dil” and “Kaali Kaali Aankhen”. The Sutlej House team entertained the audience with songs like “Chaand Mera Dil”, “Bin Tere Sanam”, “Woh Mera Khuda”, “Pathaan” and “Dhoom”.
The Jamuna House participants performed tracks including “Janam Janam”, “Tumko Paaya”, “Mitwa” and “Ye Raat Mein Jo”, while Jhelum House presented evergreen numbers such as “Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh”, “Dum Maaro Dum”, “Jaane Jaan” and “Ek Haseena Thi”.
The Ganga House team concluded the orchestra competition with soulful renditions of songs including “Ye Raatein Ye Mausam”, “Saanson Ki Mala”, “Dilbar Mere” and “Bheegi Bheegi”. The performances were judged by Anjali Kumari, Pranati Das and Mayank Kumar Bhakta.
Group song competition reflects India’s cultural mosaic
Earlier, the inter-house group song competition showcased the cultural richness of different states through traditional folk songs. Students presented regional music with colourful costumes and captivating performances.
The Chenab House team opened the competition with the Rajasthani folk song “Runiche Ra Dhaniya”, portraying the traditions of Rajasthan. Jamuna House students represented Odisha’s cultural heritage through “Rangbati Re”, while Ravi House brought alive the folk traditions of Uttar Pradesh with “Jhoola To Pad Gaye Amua Ki Daal Par”.
The Sutlej House team showcased the culture of West Bengal through “Tomay Hridoy Majhe Rakhibo”, while Ganga House celebrated Punjabi folk traditions with “Main Kattan Preetan Naal”. The Jhelum House team concluded the event by presenting “Mor Chhotanagpur”, highlighting the cultural richness of Jharkhand.
The group song competition was judged by primary wing teachers Jai Prakash Sinha, Priyanka and Sweety Anil Kumar. The winners of both competitions will be announced on the concluding day of the cultural festival on Saturday.
Music connects students with heritage, says Principal
DPS Bokaro Principal Dr. A.S. Gangwar appreciated the students’ artistic performances and described music as one of the most powerful mediums for achieving mental and emotional peace.
He said that India is a land of diversity and its culture is its true heritage. Through their performances, students not only showcased India’s cultural traditions but also conveyed the message of preserving and promoting the country’s rich legacy.
The colourful stage decoration, traditional costumes and impressive presentation of participants added charm to the event. Judges also shared their views during the programme, while the school’s music teachers enthralled the audience with their own performances.
