The SAIL-BSL brand makes its mark on the European and Asian markets


Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) is gradually increasing its footprint in the European and Asian steel markets by exporting its quality products in these markets. BSL is a unit of maharatna Steel Authourity of India Limited (SAIL).

Recent trends in exports orders received is indicative of an increasing demand of BSL’s Prime Mild Steel Non Alloy Hot Rolled Coils of European Grade EN 10025-2 S235 JR and 10025-2 S275 JR in some of the European markets. These grades of steel are primarily used in construction of structures, welding structures, bridges and buildings etc. During April 21 to June 21, Bokaro Steel Plant has dispatched 36,842 tonnes of Hot Rolled (HR) Coil of this grade to the European markets.

For the current month of July, 2950 tonnes of SAE 1006 grade which is used in pipe manufacturing and 11050 tonnes of EN 10025 grade HR coil is also planned to be dispatched to Switzerland for the first time. Apart from this, the demand for BSL products is also increasing in Asian countries. 1800 tonnes and 200 tonnes of grade JISG 3116 SG295 and grade JISG 3101 SS400 respectively will be dispatched to Singapore in July.

Notably, Bokaro Steel Plant has already obtained CE Mark certification license required for sale of indigenously manufactured steel products in European markets. Following this, HR Coils of EN 10025-2 S235 JR and 10025-2 S275 JR grades were dispatched to Italy for the first time in March,21. In fiscal 2020-21, SAIL-BSL also exported a whopping 3,32,818 tonne of steel to various countries including China which is an increase of 67% as compared to 2019-20.
